Privacy
GetFoodFacts asks nothing of you: no account, no form, no newsletter. The only data about visitors comes from the tools in the table below, which measure visits and place ads. Kiznis Studio, which owns GetFoodFacts, is the controller of that data.
Updated .
| Tool | What it does | Cookies or storage | Before your choice (EEA, UK, Switzerland) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mediavine (Journey) | Places the ads and runs the consent banner | Advertising cookies, only with your consent where the law requires it | No advertising cookies until you choose |
| Google Analytics 4 | Counts visits and pages | First-party cookies (_ga), only after you accept; event data kept 2 months, user data 14 months | Loads, and sends Google cookieless measurements (the page, the time, the browser) until you choose; no cookies |
| Umami | Counts page views in aggregate | No cookies and no stored identifiers; the page address without its query | Runs (no cookies) |
| Cloudflare | Delivers the pages and blocks abusive traffic | A security cookie (__cf_bm) when traffic looks automated | Runs (security) |
| Your browser | Remembers the light or dark label | localStorage on your device only | Runs (never sent to us) |
Consent, by region
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, advertising cookies and analytics cookies wait for your choice in Mediavine's consent banner; until then only security storage runs. Google Analytics runs in consent mode: before you choose, it sends Google cookieless measurements of the page viewed, and it sets cookies only after you accept. Elsewhere, analytics runs and personalised advertising waits for consent, except in the United States, where the default follows the opt-out model (below).
Where the GDPR applies, advertising and analytics rest on your consent; Cloudflare's security checks and Umami's aggregate counts rest on our legitimate interest in a secure, measured site. Google and Mediavine may process data in the United States; transfers from the European Economic Area rely on the safeguards each states in its own policy (Google, Mediavine).
Search pages keep your query out of analytics: Google Analytics receives the page without the words you searched, and the page sends only our domain as the referrer.
Your privacy choices in the United States
Mediavine places ads using cookies and similar identifiers (a cookie ID, your IP address, approximate location from it, and the pages you view here), and Google Analytics measures visits. Under some US state laws, sharing this with ad partners for cross-context advertising counts as a "sale" or "sharing". You can opt out:
- in Mediavine's privacy settings, from its banner or its privacy link where it shows one;
- by sending Global Privacy Control from your browser: this site then sets Google's advertising consent (ad storage, ad user data, ad personalisation) to denied on every page;
- by writing to hello@getfoodfacts.com.
You can also ask to know, correct or delete data about you; we answer within 45 days and act on the request with Google and Mediavine, which hold the data.
The food data
The pages publish USDA FoodData Central and Bureau of Labor Statistics data about foods, products and prices. It names companies and brands, never private individuals.
Your rights
Where the GDPR or a similar law applies, you can ask what data about you we hold, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to its use and complain to your data protection authority. We hold none in our own systems: the analytics and ad data sit with Google and Mediavine under the settings above. Write to hello@getfoodfacts.com and we will answer within one month and act on your request with those providers where we can.
GetFoodFacts is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.
