Browse GetFoodFacts
Every major entry point into our USDA FoodData Central index. Pick the lens that matches how you think about food: by the food itself, by brand, by nutrient, by diet rule, by category, or by how prices are moving.
Methodology
Every page on GetFoodFacts is built from Source: USDA FoodData Central (FDC), the authoritative U.S. food composition database maintained by the Agricultural Research Service. Our pipeline ingests the four FDC data types — SR Legacy (~7,800 foods), Foundation (~365 foods), Branded (~1.98M foods), and Survey — normalizes nutrient values to per-100g edible portion, and joins each food to its USDA food category and label-nutrient subset. Price pages layer in Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index series, refreshed monthly.
Ranking pages (nutrient rankings, high-in pages, diet rankings) restrict to SR Legacy and Foundation foods to keep comparisons apples-to-apples — branded entries are manufacturer-submitted and can carry reformulation noise year-over-year. Diet filters apply a single explicit rule (e.g. Keto = <5g net carbs per 100g) and rank qualifying foods by the most relevant secondary metric. FAQ blocks and nutritional narratives are computed deterministically from the underlying USDA gram values, with every figure on the page traceable to a specific USDA FoodData Central row via fdc_id.
Update cadence: USDA FoodData Central releases roughly twice a year (historically April and October), and we rebuild our full dataset on each release. BLS CPI data refreshes monthly (typically the 2nd Tuesday). Every update goes through an internal quality review before it goes live, checking that source data, figures, and page content are accurate and consistent.
