How the portion calculation works

USDA FoodData Central standardizes food composition to 100 grams, which makes records comparable even when package serving sizes differ. This tool keeps that source basis intact: a 150-gram portion multiplies each available per-100-gram value by 1.5. It does not substitute missing nutrients or infer a serving from a name.

Branded foods and whole foods can describe portions differently, and labels can change. The result links back to the selected GetFoodFacts record so you can check its full USDA-sourced label, source type, and any serving information before relying on it.

This is an informational tool using the April 2026 release, not medical or dietary advice. For nutrition changes related to a health condition, medication, or eating disorder, consult a qualified clinician or registered dietitian.

Key takeaways

  • The calculation starts with the selected USDA record, then scales every displayed value from its per-100 g basis. It does not guess a household serving size. Read the methodology
  • A result is a label-data lookup, not a meal plan or a personal nutrition recommendation. Food portions and dietary needs vary. Compare foods side by side
