Methodology

Topics are curated editorial clusters — they bundle guides, ranked food lists, diet filters, and cross-portal resources under a single reader intent. Every topic link points to a page whose numeric content traces back to Source: USDA FoodData Central or Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index. Topics are never auto-generated; they are chosen and maintained by GetFoodFacts to match how real readers arrive at nutrition questions.

Unlike automated tag pages, topic clusters stay stable across data refreshes: a new USDA release changes the foods inside a ranking, but the topic itself ("Protein", "Fiber", "Heart Health") is a stable editorial unit. This lets search engines and AI citation engines reliably resolve a topic URL to a canonical entry point rather than chasing a moving target. Each topic cross-links at minimum to a guide (educational), a ranking (data-driven list), and a diet filter (actionable shortlist), satisfying different reader intents on the same subject.

New topics are added when coverage grows beyond a single page — i.e. when a subject has a guide, at least one ranking, and one diet filter. Topics without sufficient depth are folded into the next-nearest cluster rather than stubbed. For the full editorial policy and update cadence, see methodology.
