Method and limits

Each product's declared serving size in grams or milliliters, as submitted to USDA. Since the 2016 labeling rule (21 CFR 101.9(b), 101.12), serving sizes follow FDA's reference amounts customarily consumed, but a reference amount is a range to label within, the package size decides many servings, and records submitted before the rule keep their old sizes. The spread therefore mixes real differences in portion with differences in labeling.
